Child Safety
At Deerfield Beach Pediatrics, your child’s safety is our top priority. We understand the importance of creating a safe environment both at home and in the community to support your child’s growth and development. Below, we’ve outlined key safety tips to help protect your child from common hazards at every stage of their development.
Home Safety
- Babyproofing: Install safety gates at staircases, cover electrical outlets, and secure heavy furniture to the wall to prevent tipping.
- Poison Prevention: Keep cleaning supplies, medications, and other hazardous materials locked away and out of reach. Use childproof containers for medications.
- Fire Safety: Install smoke detectors on every floor and in sleeping areas. Test them monthly and replace the batteries as needed. Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
- Choking Hazards: Avoid small toys, coins, or small food items like whole grapes or hard candy that can pose choking risks.
- Water Safety: Never leave young children unattended around water, including bathtubs, pools, or even buckets of water. Always drain water immediately after use.
Car Safety:
- Car Seats: Ensure your child is in an appropriate car seat for their age, weight, and height. Infants should remain in a rear-facing seat until they reach the manufacturer’s height and weight limits.
- Seatbelt Use: Teach older children the importance of always wearing a seatbelt and sitting in the back seat until at least age 13.
- Vehicle Safety: Never leave a child unattended in a car, even for a short time.
